Tragic death of Indian schoolgirl mourned

JEDDAH
– The teachers and students of Al-Mawarid International School, as well as the entire Keralite community in Jeddah mourned the tragic death of Fida Abdul Latheef, a 10th grade student.

The school declared holiday on Monday and paid last respects to the girl, who was excellent in her studies and was very obedient, according to Principal K.A Abul Samad.

Fida was the daughter of Abdul Latheef Kalaranthiri, managing director of Al-Sharq Furniture Est. and president of the Jeddah Koduvally chapter of the Kerala Muslim Cultural Center.

Fida was buried at Al-Mualla Graveyard in Makkah after funeral prayers for her at the Grand Mosque following the Maghreb prayer on Sunday. Hundreds of community members attended the last rites.

Fida drowned in a swimming pool at a rest house in Rihaily on the outskirts of Jeddah Saturday night. The accident occurred as she was swimming with other girls during a community gathering.

In addition to her father, Fida is survived by mother Jasli and siblings Fayaz Muhammad, Faiha Fatima and Ayisha.
