Unified Gulf Week starts to boost oral and dental health program

RIYADH — Under the aegis of Minister of Health Dr. Tawfiq Al-Rabiah the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Riyadh, represented by the Dental Department, will organize the Riyadh Dental Meeting 2018, which will be held on Wednesday and Thursday (March 21 and 22) at Crowne Plaza - Al-Nakheel district, with the participation of a selection of leading local and international speakers.

The oral health is an integral part of public health, and the incidence of oral and dental diseases in the GCC is very high. Given the awareness of the members of the Ministers' Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) for the significance of the oral and dental health, they issued the decision No. 4 at the 65th conference of the FCC'S Cabinet, held in Geneva on May 21, 2008. This decision provides a number of items, the most important of which is to approve the gulf plan of the oral and dental health care, submitted by the Gulf Committee for the Oral and Dental Health.

In line with the objectives of the Gulf Committee for the Promotion of Oral and Dental Health, the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Riyadh intends to organize a scientific meeting to discuss the most important scientific strategies to reduce oral and dental diseases, which aims to provide dentists and other dental specialties and health facilities with the latest scientific findings, and successful global scientific experiments in the prevention of oral diseases and tooth decay.

Health Affairs also plans to organize awareness and preventive events at the community level, offering multiple services for all age groups, including free screening, dental consultation and referrals, as well as the application of fluoride for children. The first of these community events will be the Oral and Dental Health Exhibition in Granada Mall, March 28-31.

The Head of Dental Department in the General Directorate of Health Affairs in Riyadh and the Chairman of Riyadh Dental Meeting 2018, Dr. Abdullah Alamri, said that this meeting is the start of the events of the Unified Gulf Week for boosting the oral and dental health program to strengthen the health of oral and dental from the capital Riyadh with the participation of a large selection of speakers and consultants from the Kingdom and abroad and the participation of a large number of dental professionals.

This meeting is to spread interest and awareness in the field of oral and dental health in general in all segments of society, pointing out that the goal of the meeting is to provide all dental professionals with the latest developments and strategies in the Oral and dental diseases. In addition, the meeting is being held to study the accompanying challenges and discuss ways to overcome them. Importantly, this meeting is to improve educating community members, especially children and their parents about the importance and how to care for oral and dental health.

An important aim of this meeting is activating the role of governmental and private institutions in supporting and implementing preventive programs, and to activate the preventive role of the workforce in the field of dentistry.

Dr. Mohammed Aldossary, chairman of the Scientific Committee of the meeting, also revealed that this meeting will present indicators of oral diseases and teeth decay in the region. This meeting is designed to learn about scientific strategies interested in combating oral diseases and teeth decay, and to discuss the ways and means of scientific influence to prevent teeth decay.

The Riyadh Dental Meeting 2018 will present the latest developments and recommendations of global organizations concerned with the prevention of oral and dental diseases, and will review some of the successful global experiences in the control of oral and dental diseases.

Dr. Aldossary explained that this meeting provides hours of continuous education for health practitioners with 16 credit hours from the Saudi Commission for Health Specialties. — SG
