Unstable weather likely with arrival of spring this week

JEDDAH — The General Authority of Meteorology and Environmental Protection forecast probable rain and heavy winds as the spring season in the Kingdom starts later this week. It also said temperatures would rise in various areas of the Kingdom while it would drop in other regions, according to Al-Hayat newspaper.

The authority has said some areas of the Kingdom have already been witnessing weather fluctuations since Thursday. Southerly winds traveling at a speed of 45 km per hour will be carrying dust that will reduce vision during the day in Riyadh, Qassim and the Eastern Province, it said.

Jazan, Asir and Baha may experience scattered rain. Eastern parts of Makkah and Madinah province may also experience rain.

The temperatures will drop in Hail, Jouf, Northern Border and Tabuk provinces. The authority has issued weather alert in eight provinces including Asir, Najran, the Eastern Province, Qassim, Hail, Makkah, Madinah and Baha.

The spring season in Saudi Arabia extends from March 21 to May 21 and it is known for bringing unstable weather.

The general public is urged to check the authority's website for the latest forecasts and weather warnings on a regular basis. They are also urged to stay safe and remain indoors during unstable weather and only to leave their homes in cases of absolute emergency.
