JEDDAH
— Head over heels is not just a hilarious stand-up comedy, but rather one that unveils the reality of the complicated love-life of Saudi women. The full-packed house was no surprise as Maisah Sobaihi, a one-woman army from being a play-writer, director and performer of her own entity, knows exactly how to rule. The Saudi Society of Culture and Arts in Jeddah was literally packed with womenfolk eagerly waiting to watch Sobaihi back in action.

The show performed by Sobaihi outlined various roles and characters of Saudi women and how they contribute to our society and social development.

What do women in Saudi Arabia do when their husbands decide on wife number two? Do they fight or flee? What's life like for the second wife? How long is too long to wait for Mr Prince Charming to come galloping on his horse? In "Head Over Heels" Sobaihi took the audience on a journey to playfully explore the lives of three women.

Speaking after her exceptional performance, she said: “Head Over Heels has established a lot of recognition, both locally and internationally, and has received rave reviews over the years, so we are delighted to announce it’s back in Jeddah for a limited time only.”

“I am very delighted to hold the play it for the first time at Saudi Society of Culture and Arts and appreciate the great efforts by the organizers and society.”

“The play is a fun, light-hearted and also educational performance,” said Samia Al-Bishri, president of the Women's Theater Committee at the Saudi Society of Culture and Arts.

Dr. Maisah Sobaihi is one of the first Saudi female comedians and a widely respected voice for Saudi women across the world. She was the first Saudi performer to participate at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival in 2013 and has performed her one-woman play “Head Over Heels in Saudi Arabia” in the United States and Great Britain as well.
