140 kph speed limit on some highways from Monday

RIYADH – The amended speed limits on some expressways will come into effect on Monday, Feb. 19, Saudi Press Agency (SPA) quoted the Director of Public Relations in Public Security Col. Sami Bin Muhammad Al-Shuwairikh as saying on Saturday.

The new speed limits will be 140 kph for small vehicles, 100 kph for buses and 80 kph for trucks.

Col. Al-Shuwairikh said signboards showing speed limits will be put up on some highways.

The roads on which speed limits have been amended include Riyadh-Taif Road westwards, Riyadh-Taif Road eastwards, Riyadh-Qassim Road northwards, Qassim-Riyadh Road southwards, Makkah-Madinah Road northwards, Madinah-Makkah Road southwards, Madinah-Jeddah Road southwards and Jeddah-Madinah Road northwards.

He stressed the importance of abiding by speed limits. He cautioned motorists not to exceed speed limits and to strictly abide by instructions on signboards.

The Special Forces for Road Security said increased speed limit does not mean that motorists should increase speed to the maximum limit.
