Model United Nations conference held at PISJES

JEDDAH — “Great commencements seldom launch with unplanned efforts and enthusiastic exertions at all ends,” said Principal Adnan Nasir on the occasion of the first ever inaugural of Model United Nations Conference at Pakistan International School Jeddah – English Section which proved to be an academic simulation of the UN to instill in youth the sense of diplomatic norms and understanding of the global issues.

The program formally began with the recitation of the verses from Holy Quran, followed by the national anthem of Pakistan. The auditorium was thoroughly decked, replicating the absolutely solemn, subtle and professional setting of the United Nation Assembly.

Twenty-nine delegates, representing different countries including Pakistan, India, Saudi Arabia, China, USA and Iran highlighted some of the emerging global issues against the NPT (Nuclear Proliferation Treaty) and SDG’s (Sustainable and Development Goals) of United Nations with the agenda of ‘Unite in Peace; not in Ppieces’ and ‘Humanitarian situation in Developing Countries’ respectively.

The president of NPT agenda was Shifa Ashar, while the agenda for SDG’s was headed forth under the presidency of Anusha Khawaja, while the role of stage secretary was deliberated by Wajeeh Khalil from the Commerce Club.

During his opening address, Nasir said, “The idea behind holding such events like ‘Model United Nations Conference’ is not only to provide students, a platform to express their thoughts and opinions but also intends to inculcate in them the attributes of patience, wisdom, discipline, knack and acceptance of differing viewpoints broadmindedly as today’s young delegates are future’s mature ambassadors and diplomats.”

Sharing his moments of pride on beholding the youth, prudently engaging in the global issues, he said, “In order to create a world which is secure, prosperous and healthy, we must need to understand global issues which intertwine in such a way that all and everyone feel the impact; hence they should be understood, raised voice upon and dealt with full responsibility and confidence.”

He elaborated further, “Change begins from within on individualistic level and the enthusiastic youth like you being counted on for positive change across the globe. Regardless of your age, your aspirations, your interests, your fields, your hobbies, your likes and dislikes, you all are responsible to work towards making this world a better place.”

Towards the end, the principal congratulated the Commerce Club for presenting such a well thoughtout program and the senior school administration for all the hard work and flawless coordination to organize such an immaculate event first time in the history of PISJ-ES.

The intellectually stirring day came to its end with group photo of all the organizers and delegates and a concluding talk with the principal of this prestigious alma mater. — SG
