It will contend with Call Me By Your Name, British World War Two dramas Darkest Hour and Dunkirk, racial thriller Get Out, mother-daughter tale Lady Bird, romance Phantom Thread, press freedom movie The Post and dark comedy Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri for the best picture award at the Academy Awards ceremony in Hollywood on March 4. In October 2016, the actress Rose McGowan posted three tweets accusing a “studio head” of rape, using the hashtag #WhyWomenDontReport. Rose was referring to former Miramax head Harvey Weinstein, who, it’s since been revealed, had paid her $100,000 for her silence about a 1997 encounter at the Sundance Film Festival in Utah. In her memoir, “Brave,” Rose details her experience and paranoia that ensued when she tried to get the story of Weinstein’s sexual predation out. However, years before Rose met Weinstein, her life had already been through hell. She was emancipated from her parents before she was old enough to drive. New York Times critic writes that the book “reads like the diary of a woman driven half-mad by abusive men who assume no one will listen to her. In this case, the truth was finally — and, for McGowan, triumphantly — exposed.”
