JEDDAH — Consular Community Welfare at the Consulate General Pakistan here, Abdul Basit Maqsood Abbasi has urged the members of Pakistani community living in Saudi Arabia to send home their remittances through legal channels.

He was addressing as a keynote speaker in the seminar on “To promote home remittances to Pakistan” organized by H & H Exchange Co. (PTV) Ltd., pioneer in foreign exchange business in association with State Bank of Pakistan (SBP) and Western Union, moving money for better, at Hotel Radisson Blue on Madinah Road on Tuesday.

Syed Irfan Ali, executive director SBP chaired the seminar. Other guests were Ali Bader Uddin, chief executive of Western Union, Fazal Mahmood and Mohiuddin, executive officers SBP, Abu Baker Memon, president Business Community Jeddah, and large number of distinguished members from business and expatriate community attended the seminar.

The seminar began with the recitation of few verses from Holy Qur’an by Qari Mohammed Munir. Memon welcomed all guests and conducted the proceedings.

In his speech, Abbasi lauded the historical and business relationship between Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. He said the largest share, in home remittances, are coming from Saudi Arabia, which play vital role in the economic development of Pakistan.

The consular community welfare added that as overseas Pakistanis are the backbone of the economic development of the country therefore, the consulate addressed their issues on priority basis. He assured the consulate would continue its cooperation.

He hoped that this seminar would help expatriates and investors in sending remittances to their families, saving in bank accounts or invest in Pakistan in various schemes through formal and legal channels.

Ali Bader Uddin said, “I am honored to be here. He thanked Haji Haroon, chairman H&H Exchange and his team, for organizing the seminar in such a short time.

He said the Pakistani remittance industry has seen phenomenal growth in last few years. The Pakistan outbound business to those countries has reached 5 billion which puts Pakistan at the 6th global spot in bank corridor and this a huge step in the right direction for all to use legal channels, he added.
