January 15, 2018

JEDDAH — The Royal Thai Consulate General here, in cooperation with Thai community in Western region of Saudi Arabia, has organized National Children’s Day at the consulate’ s premises on Saturday. About 400 children and parents, living in Jeddah and Makkah, participated in this event. Thai Consul General, Thanis Na Songkhla, delivered a speech to the children to excel in everything they do and declared the event open.

“Children are expected to be good, responsible members of society and be grateful to their parents, teachers and others who have conferred benefits on them. All this is to enable the youth of the country to live together with others in society in happiness, and to grow up to become Thailand’s able and moral adults,” said Na Songkhla.

Several games and activities were arranged for children to play and show off their talents. The children also exchanged gifts with each other and enjoyed food and drink prepared by the consulate and Thai Community.

In Thailand, the National Children’s Day is marked on the second Saturday of January of every year. It’s Thailand’s annual event to acknowledge the rights of children. Parliament opens for children to visit on this day. Children have the chance to sit on the prime minister’s seat as well as other governmental agencies such as Royal Thai Air Force and Royal Thai Army that also open for children’s visit.

The 2018 Children’s Day motto, given by the Prime Minister of Thailand, Gen. Prayut Chan-o-cha, is “Clever, cautious, creative in technology”, which tells every youngster to realize their importance as a valuable human resource of the nation. It is hoped to inspire the youth of today to be earnest about learning, constantly enhance their abilities, and be willing to acquire beneficial new knowledge while using information media technology constructively. — SG
