IISD honored at annual Gulf principals’ meet in Chennai

DAMMAM — The 30th Annual Conference of the Principals of CBSE (Central Board of Secondary Education) affiliated schools in the Gulf was held at Leela Palace Hotel in Chennai last week. The 4-day meet was attended by 110 principals representing 160 Gulf-based CBSE affiliated schools.

Apart from the principals several CBSE officials like K.K. Choudhury, controller of examinations, Dr. Biswajit Saha, director academics research and innovation, Dharmadhikari, ROD Chennai and several other leading academicians and professionals attended the session.

There were sessions conducted by Prof. V. N. Rajashekharan Pillai, former IGNOU vice chancellor and vice chairman, University Grants Commission (UGC), Dr. T.P. Sasikumar, space scientist, Dr. Dheeraj Mehrotra, Dr. M Anandakrishnan and Prof. Harikumar from Ashoka University. They presented their papers on various major issues on curriculum and preparation of textbooks, conducting of examinations, evaluation and assessment etc. There were healthy and fruitful discussions during the conference.

The last segment of the conference was reserved to felicitate the Gulf-based CBSE affiliated schools for their outstanding performance in academics, sports, games and other extra curricular activities. Five of the IISD students were honored for securing 2nd position in long jump (Hamza Koya) and 3rd position in 4x100m relay in the All India CBSE national competitions (Shaheel Shamsudeen, Salman Saleem, Ramees Basheer, Hamza Koya, Arkaan Sayed).

In the entire Gulf region two students from IIS Dammam topped in academics by scoring 2nd and 3rd positions in humanities stream (1st - Ms. Athulya Mohan and Yusra Khan). In the Saudi Chapter level it was a clean sweep for IIS Dammam. All three positions — 1st, 2nd and 3rd — in science stream (1st position Roshan Raju, 2nd position Shahna Medar Manzil, and Gaurav Verma, and 3rd position Atharva Dixit), Commerce stream (1st Caroline Elizabeth Shaji, 2nd Aishwarya Menon and Mohd. Bilal Siddika, and 3rd. Nafisa Afreen) and in Humanities stream (1st. Athulya Mohan, 2nd Yusra Khan, 3rd Mahrosa Ismail Salih) were secured by IISD students. All these students were given mementos at the function.

Special memento was given for the school also and all awards were received by the principal during the conference. The chairman and management again appreciated the students and staff for their excellent performance and bringing laurels to the school.

Meanwhile, International Indian School Dammam will be organizing the ‘Annual Mushaira 2018’ in the boys’ school auditorium at 7:45 p.m. on Saturday, Jan. 20. Renowned Urdu poets from various parts of India will be participating in the event.

Invitation card will be issued on first come first served basis. Children below 12 years are not allowed. Separate request is to be submitted for every individual invitation card. The list of invitees will be published on the school website on Tuesday, Jan. 16.

The invitees shall collect their admission cards from the reception at IISD boys’ section on Jan. 17-18 from 2:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m., by presenting their reference code in the list and original Iqama. — SG
