JTC students design solar-powered house

JEDDAH — Undergraduate students of Jeddah Technical College have designed a house that operates on renewable energy.

College Dean Abdulrahman Al-Siraie said the project was part of the electrical engineering program.

“The aim of the project was to build a house that saves and reserves electrical energy. The students were not only required to draw up the plan but also implement it on the ground. The project was part of their training for future careers,” said Al-Siraie.

He said practical projects are meant to inculcate in the students creativity and critical thinking skills that enable them to challenge their own potential and overcome obstacles.

“The college has completed a total of five projects this semester, the renewable energy house being the fifth one. The house is not only powered by solar energy, but it is also a smart house that receives wireless signals,” said Al-Siraie.

He said all of the projects met the necessary standards of quality assurance and were patented, enabling the students to adapt them for commercial production in local and international markets.
