SANS, Indra sign deal to upgrade air traffic systems

JEDDAH — In light of the development witnessed by the Civil Aviation Industry in Saudi Arabia and in line with Kingdom’s Vision 2030 in coping with the steady growth of Air Traffic and Airspace Management, (SANS), represented by Chairman of the Board of Directors Eng. Abdullah Bin Saleh Alsuweilmy, signed a contract for upgrading, modernization and development of Air Traffic Systems with Spanish company Indra, which is considered one of the pioneer companies in Air Navigation Technology. Indra was represented by General Manager of Traffic Management Systems Gonzelo Gavin.

Al-Swailemi expressed his of achieving a new qualitative leap in the Kingdom’s air navigation service through cooperation with Indra, which has been selected from many international companies because of its vast experiences and advanced technical programs.

The upgrade will reflect positively in the air transport sector, and services of arriving and departing flights as well as the transit flights over the Kingdom’s airspace. “We look forward to achieve the required results with the support of Allah,” he said, while expressing his appreciation for support the company he receives from the GACA President Abdulhakeem Bin Mohammed Al-Tamimi. He also expressed his thanks and appreciation to all colleagues in the company for their outstanding efforts that led to the signing of this project.

Chief Executive Officer Eng. Ryyan Bin Waddah Tarabzoni said, “SANS is the main nerve of our country’s Air Transport System which is witnessing an unprecedented development, plans and projects. This project is part of the company’s strategic plan aimed at achieving the highest operational targets for the highest level of safety, efficiency, accuracy and precision distinguished services to airline companies using Saudi airspace as such this shall contribute in fuel consumption savings and reduce the operating cost and emission of gases affecting the environment.”

He added that the project includes replacement of the existing Air Traffic Management System in each of the regional Traffic Control Centers in Riyadh, Jeddah, ATMs in Dammam and Abha as well as connecting 12 Traffic Control Towers to the main system. It also includes the training of many Saudi traffic controllers, engineers and technicians. He said, he valued the role of all employees in the company and the team working on preparing this project.
