8.5m Umrah pilgrims leave through KAIA

JEDDAH – King Abdulaziz International Airport has announced successful completion of this year’s Umrah season. With the departure of the last batch of Umrah pilgrims from Egypt on Sunday morning, the airport has extended services to more than 8.5 million pilgrims during the Umrah season that began on Safar 1 and ended on Shawwal 15.

A total of 4.2 million pilgrims arrived at the airport on board 28,000 flights while 4.3 million pilgrims returned to their countries on board 29,000 flights during the period.

Abdullah Al-Reemi, director general of the airport, said that more than 10,000 staffers representing 27 government and private sectors were involved in serving the pilgrims. The travel procedures have been completed within a record time, with the waiting time in front of the Passports Control counters could reduce to less than 10 minutes, he added.
