WASHINGTON — Stephen Strasburg struck out 13 batters in seven innings, Anthony Rendon was 3-for-3 with a homer, and Bryce Harper was 2-for-4 with two RBIs as the Washington Nationals beat the Chicago Cubs 8-4 Wednesday.
There was more bad news for the Cubs as Kris Bryant left in the fifth inning when he rolled his ankle on the third-base bag after he caught a foul pop nearby. He sustained a moderate right ankle sprain; X-rays were negative. Manager Joe Maddon said Bryant "obviously" would be off his feet for a few days.
Strasburg (9-2) gave up four hits and three runs (two earned) with pinpoint control. He walked one while throwing 96 pitches, 70 for strikes. The right-hander had allowed 13 runs in his previous 15 1/3 innings.
Angels 3, Dodgers 2: Dodgers catcher Yasmani Grandal hit a game-tying home run with two outs in the top of the ninth inning, only to commit a throwing error in the bottom of the ninth to give the Angels a walk-off victory.
The Angels' winning rally started when Dodgers shortstop Chris Taylor, subbing for the injured Corey Seager, booted Ben Revere's ground ball for an error with one out.
Yankees 12, White Sox 3: Aaron Judge smashed his 27th home run, rookie Miguel Andujar had four RBIs in his major league debut and Masahiro Tanaka won for the first time since May 8 as New York beat Chicago.
Andujar, who was recalled from Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to replace Matt Holliday (viral infection), went 3-for-4 and had two two-run hits. He drove in two with a two-out single in the first inning and doubled home two in the ninth.
Astros 11, Athletics 8: George Springer and Jose Altuve reached base four times apiece, and Houston outslugged Oakland.
Springer finished 3-for-4 with a walk, two RBIs and three runs, while Altuve went 2-for-3 with two walks and an RBI to spark a 17-hit attack for the Astros. Springer clubbed his 24th home run in the first inning to ignite the outburst.
Indians 5, Rangers 3: Michael Brantley had two hits and two RBIs, and Trevor Bauer pitched into the seventh inning as Cleveland beat Texas.
Bauer (7-6) worked 6 1/3 innings, giving up one run and four hits, with three strikeouts and one walk. The Rangers' Yu Darvish (6-6) pitched six innings, allowing three runs (two earned) and seven hits, with six strikeouts and one walk.
Twins 4, Red Sox 1: Max Kepler hit a two-run homer and an RBI single to back a strong outing from Adalberto Mejia in Minnesota's victory over Boston.
Mejia (3-3) tossed 5 2/3 scoreless innings. He has not given up a run in 10 2/3 innings over his past two starts. Miguel Sano also drove in his team-leading 53rd run of the season for Minnesota.
Giants 5, Rockies 3: Jae-Gyun Hwang's first major league hit, a solo home run in the sixth inning, proved to be the difference as San Francisco handed Colorado its eighth straight loss.
Cardinals 4, Diamondbacks 3: Jedd Gyorko drove in two runs, Adam Wainwright limited Arizona to two runs over 6 1/3 innings, and St. Louis made good use of all six hits to hand Arizona just its third loss in 16 games.
Royals 8, Tigers 2: Salvador Perez and Mike Moustakas hit back-to-back homers during a four-run fourth, and Alex Gordon drove in three runs to power Kansas City past Detroit.
