JEDDAH — Two students were sentenced to prison and lashing for physically assaulting and humiliating the vice principal of their school.
Juvenile Court judge Mazen Sindi said assaulting teachers is a great offense as "Islamic traditions teach us to respect our teachers and have a high regard for them."
The two were caught by the vice principal cheating during an exam. The students yelled at the vice principal and assaulted him verbally. After the exam, they waited for the vice principal outside of the school. When he came out they physically assaulted him.
The school’s surveillance cameras recorded the entire incident. The police arrested the two students and their case was forwarded to the Bureau of Investigation and Public Prosecution. The bureau investigated the case with the two students and the vice principal.
“The vice principal submitted medical reports documenting and confirming the injuries inflicted on him. The two students confessed to their crime and were sentenced to 10 days of prison each and 70 lashes for one of the students and 40 lashes for the other,” said Sindi.
He added the two students were also prevented from going to school for a whole year and were obliged to take a pledge never to assault the vice principal again.
